Obituary for Evangeline E. Zetterberg
Evangeline Zetterberg (Lynn)
September 11, 1922 – January 13, 2018
Evangeline Zetterberg better known as Lynn passed away quietly in her sleep on January 13, 2018. Born in Kearny NJ on September 11, 1922 as Evangeline Blake, she was one of five children. At the age of 17 while working for RCA, she moved to Brooklyn and became an active member of the Kings Highway Methodist Church. It is here where she met her husband of 62 years Gerard (Jerry) Zetterberg.
Both Lynn and Jerry were Girl Scout and Boy Scout leaders. Lynn was also a den mother for the Cub Scouts and assistant Brownie leader through the church.
In 1959 they moved to Closter, in Bergin County New Jersey. Lynn sang in the choir and she and her husband became youth advisors at the Demarest Methodist Church.
After raising their three children, Lynn went to work at the Pascack Valley Hospital, and then to work for a prestigious dermatology associations group where she was office manager and administrator. Together with the doctors, Lynn wrote a book on office procedures. After retiring they moved to Mays Landing where she lived until moving in with her daughter in Egg Harbor Township.
Always a kid at heart, Lynn enjoyed being around children whether watching the Mets games or playing board games, reading stories, or having a tea party with her grandchildren. The most important thing in Lynn’s life was her family. She built her life around her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was extremely proud of their accomplishments.
Lynn was predeceased by her four siblings, her husband Jerry, her daughter Lynn Ramm Taylor, her son-in-law Joseph Carey, and daughter-in-law Linda Zetterberg. She is survived by her son Gerard T. Zetterberg, daughter Florence Detrick Carey and son-in-law Brien Taylor. She is also survived by her nine grandchildren: Jean Zetterberg, Robert (Michelle) Zetterberg, Michael (Tara) Zetterberg, Laura (Mark) Reynolds, Ronald C. Detrick, Christine (Mike) Patterson, Amy (Jim) Rodman, Kate Ramm, and Rebecca Ramm. Thirteen great grand-children and ten nieces and nephews.
A service and celebration of Lynn’s life is being planned for sometime in the spring. Her final resting place will be next to her husband at the Veteran’s Cemetery in Estell Manor.
