Obituary for Alan Lee Wright Jr.

Alan Lee Wright, Jr., age 37, of Mays Landing, NJ passed away on April 22, 2023.

Alan attended Oakcrest High School, where he proved to be a phenomenal athlete. He played defensive tackle for the Oakcrest Falcons football team. However, he discovered his true passion when he became a member of the Falcons wrestling program. In just his first year on the team, he became a district champion. Alan’s athletic talents and determination helped him to become an accomplished MMA fighter. He fought at local casinos and in various tri-state sporting arenas, using his multiple combined martial arts disciplines to excel against his opponents. Alan’s favorite martial arts disciplines were Muay Thai and Jiu-Jitsu, which he excelled at. He found immense joy and satisfaction on the mat while sparring and rolling with fellow enthusiasts who shared his passion for martial arts. His martial arts family was a tight-knit and supportive community, whom he deeply loved and respected. Despite his athletic appearance, Alan was actually a gentle giant at heart; he always went out of his way to defend and support those closest to him.

Alan was predeceased by his father, Alan L. Wright; grandparents, Edward V. Devlin Jr., George and Florence Wright, Margie Santo, aunt Kathy Devlin, and cousin Michael Wright. He is survived by his mother Maureen Devlin of Mays Landing, NJ, his son Aidan of Vineland, NJ; his partner, Jessica Vassallo of Somers Point, NJ; grandmother, Kathy M. Devlin; siblings, Bobby (Jacqulyn), Khrystine, and Kevin Wright; Nephews, Edward, Dawson, and Vincent; and niece, Nina Josephine; aunts, Coleen Devlin, Eileen (Dave) Balesteri, and Debbie Esposito (Bill); Uncles, Eddie (Daria) Devlin, Michael (Velma) Devlin, Kevin (Jen) Devlin, and Billy Santo; along with many cousins.

The family kindly requests that any happy stories or fond memories of Alan be dropped in the private letterbox provided by the funeral home on the evening of his service. These letters will be given to his son, Aidan, and we hope that they may add comfort to his family during their healing process. Your kind words and memories will be invaluable to the family as they reflect and remember Alan’s life.

The loss of Alan will undoubtably leave a profound void in the lives of those who knew and loved him. He will be immensely missed.

A service will be held Thursday, May 4, 2023 at the Boakes Funeral Home, 6050 Main Street, Mays Landing, NJ, at 8 pm where friends and family may gather from 6-8 pm.
