Obituary

Alma (Caplan) Wulfson (93) of Mays Landing, passed away peacefully on December 23, 2020. Alma was born on September 5, 1927 in Spring Lake, NJ, grew up in East Orange and Belmar and graduated from Manasquan High School in 1944.

Alma began her professional career on Wall Street and went on to work at Lakehurst Naval Air Station as a contract specialist. Her true passion was the beach and she also loved to frequent the casinos. Alma’s claim to fame was in September of 1958. While headed into NYC to have lunch with friends, the train she was riding on plunged into the Newark Bay. There were 44 people riding on the train car she was in and Alma was one of two survivors. After recovering, Alma often said that any time she had on earth was a bonus.

Alma is preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Joseph Wulfson. She is survived by her daughter Cathy Smith (Gill) of Califon, NJ and her daughter Barbara Petuskey (Michael) of Mays Landing, her grandchildren, Jennifer and Kevin Smith, Megan and Michael Petuskey and two very dear friends, Mindy Fleischer and Lynn Thermann Budach.

Due to the pandemic, funeral services will be private and a memorial service will be held in the near future.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Angelichealth Hospice Care, 8025 Black Horse Pike, West Atlantic City, NJ 08232.
