Obituary for Barbara Gene Bond

Barbara G. Bond (née Thrower), age 77, of Egg Harbor Township, NJ passed away October 25, 2022 after a battle with breast cancer. Her daughter was by her side when she transitioned.

Barbara was born on January 13, 1945 to LuGene and Buck Thrower in Petersburg, Virginia. After graduating high school, she attended Virginia State College where she received her Bachelor of Arts on May 31, 1970.

Shortly after graduating college, Barbara made her way to Atlantic City, NJ where she met her husband, Russell Bond, and eventually obtained her Master of Arts from Glassboro State College (now Rowan University).

Barbara became a beloved teacher in the Pleasantville, NJ school district for 35 years before retiring in June 2017. She is fondly remembered by a multitude of former students for her kindness inside and outside the classroom. She was equally loved by her colleagues, many of whom became personal and long-time friends.

She was also a proud member of the National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa (Delta Lambda Chapter), whose membership consists of educators and others interested in education.

Barbara was predeceased by her parents and her beloved brother, David Thrower. She is survived by her husband Russell Bond; of Egg Harbor Township NJ; her daughter Hawa Bond of Hamden, CT; and her two grandsons Darius Bond of Bayonne, NJ and Robert “Robbie” Barnes of Hamden, CT. She is also survived by Chris Estelle, her husband’s son, with whom she had a lovely relationship.

Her burial arrangements are being handled by Boakes Funeral Home in Mays Landing, NJ. To honor her final wishes, there won’t be a public ceremony. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider visiting hawabond.com/give to donate to the Generational Blessings fund.
