Obituary for Chad C. Funk

Chad Craig Funk
29 February 1972 – 21 October 2022

Son of William C. and Joyce E. Funk, born in Atlantic City Medical Center. Chad was a graduate of Emma C. Attales Middle School and Holy Spirit High School (Class of 1990), both located in Absecon. Chad served in the US Coast Guard, serving on the USCG Dallas-716 from 1992-1994. He is predeceased by his parents, with whom he was very close. Chad is survived by half-brothers William Scott Funk and James J. McCullough II and his wife Kathryn and his four children, Lydia, Patrick, Peter and Loryn. He is survived as well by aunts Nancy Funk-Jacoby and Gail Funk-Hott and her husband Uncle Jim Hott, cousins Karen Hott-Walterson and husband Ian and Nicholas and Kelly Jacoby.

Chad will be remembered for a quick sense of humor he got from his mother Joyce, his endless banter, and a generous heart he inherited from his father, Bill. He had a life-long love of fishing, hunting and boating on bay and river. The Christmas season was his favorite time of year, when Lionel Trains were always present, a glimpse back to the glory days of the extensive train platforms constructed by his father and grandfather before him. All who knew Chad loved Chad, and he will be missed deeply by his family and friends.

I dream of the river and the back bay,
Fishing with Dad in the brightness of day,
Opening the throttle and making our way
back to the docks.
But its been a long evening, and too long the roam,
I’m glad to see port now, I’m glad to be home.

A service of remembrance will held on Tuesday, November 22 at the Absecon Methodist Church Cemetery, 100 Pitney Road. Donations made be made to Angels in Motion, an addiction outreach agency based in Philadelphia.
