Edward Johnston, 78, of Mays Landing, NJ passed away on January 31, 2023. He was born on July 3, 1944 in Atlantic City, NJ to Elmer and Mary Johnston.
Ed worked as an Audio Visual Technician for a variety of different venues and stage performances, traveling around the United States and meeting a wide variety of people, actors, and performers. His eyes would always light up when he talked about his years working in this field. In his later years, he switched to working in the food service industry as a Food Buyer for US Foods. He worked there until forced retirement at age 70.
In 2015, Ed was diagnosed with stage 3 prostate cancer - he not only beat cancer, but it never came back in the years that followed. In 2017, his kidneys began to fail and he was placed on dialysis. He never let this prognosis control his life, however, continued searching for things to do to stay busy.
His favorite pastimes included cooking, baking, and grilling; playing (and napping) with the pups, Zack & Savannah; solitaire and crossword puzzles; relaxing in the pool and working on that summer tan; and loving the Phillies & Eagles when they won, and hating them when they lost. He was very excited to know that the Eagles were going to the Superbowl.
Ed is survived by his wife of 40 years Carol, his daughter Jennifer, his brother Elmer (late wife Kay), and brother Jerry (wife Dianne).
Ed did not want a grand celebration of life, a drawn-out funeral or service. He will be buried at Union Cemetery, 5442 Somers Point Road, Mays Landing on Tuesday, February 7th at 1pm. Relatives and friends are welcome to attend, but nothing is expected.
