Obituary for E. Charlotte Ripley

E. Charlotte Ripley, 91, of Mays Landing passed away peacefully at Seashore Gardens in Galloway, NJ on January 14, 2023. She was born in Atlantic City, NJ where she resided until moving to Pleasantville with her parents Anna & Milton Jackson. She married her high school sweetheart, Bob, and moved to Mays Landing where they raised their six children.
She is survived by children Terry (Steve) Cohen, Bill (Nancy) Ripley, Joanne (Dennis) Hennessy, Nancy Applegate, Charleen (Bob) Ripley-MaDan. Nine grandchildren, Cory (Amanda), Brian (Jamie), Corinne (Bradd), Christopher (Angela), Dennis, Dana (Mark), Nicole, Cody, Jay. Fifteen great grandchildren who she loved dearly, and many nieces and nephews who are cherished members of the family.
She is predeceased by her husband Robert (Bob), daughter, Barbara Jo, mother, Anna (Brandt) Jackson and father, Milton Jackson, brothers, Milton Jackson, and Bruce Jackson
She and Bob owned and operated the Rusty Nail Tavern in Mays Landing. She met many wonderful people as the head bartender. She moved on to manage a drapery store for several years then a bathing suit factory and retired from Kaufman Accounting Firm. She was very active in her community as part of the Republican Club, volunteered as a poll worker, volunteered weekly at St. Vincent de Paul, and Holy Redeemer Hospice.
Her and Bob loved the outdoors and often went camping in their RV visiting various state parks. They loved spending time in the summers boating and fishing. Her and Bob established the annual Mays Landing, Night of Lights. She was an avid football fan who loved the Eagles and referred to Tom Brady as her favorite QB. She was very creative and loved to do crafts of all kinds. She made many ceramics for the holidays, crocheted blankets, slippers, and scarfs, she did basket weaving, and needle point. She rarely missed a Friday getting her hair done and she was often called “Big Red”. Charlotte was a fashionista who enjoyed dressing like a movie star! She was also known as Shot-z which was “Sweetheart” in German. She touched many people in her life and will be deeply missed.
A viewing will be held at St. Vincent de Paul Church, 5021 Harding Highway on Friday, January 20th from 9am – 10:45am, where mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11am. Interment at Atlantic County Park Veteran’s Cemetery of Estell Manor.
