Obituary for Helen Jean Barresi (Henry)

Helen Jean Barresi (Henry), October 22, 1930- January 17, 2021.

Helen Jean Barresi (Henry), 90, of Mays Landing, passed away peacefully early Sunday morning after a long and difficult battle with Parkinson’s Disease. She was able to spend the last years of her life at home because of the constant 24/7 care from her son, Joseph.

Helen was born in Atlantic City and graduated from Atlantic City High School. She began her career as a cafeteria worker at Shaner School in 1962 and was promoted to Cafeteria Supervisor for Shaner School, Duberson School, Davies School and Hess School until her retirement 37 years later. She never missed a day of work. In those 37 years, everyone ate well even if they couldn’t pay. That was also true at home. If you visited, you didn’t leave without eating. Cookies were her specialty. She was always working with her hands. In addition to cooking, she enjoyed woodworking, painting, ceramics and gardening.

She enjoyed her childhood living on Lake Lenape with her siblings in the family house at Bosic’s Cove, where the Atlantic County Park Boat house is now located. She shared many stories of her time there.

She was predeceased by her parents Norman and Frieda (Bosic) Henry, her husband Joseph Vincent Barresi and her daughter Barbara Mary Barresi. She was the youngest of seven children. She is also predeceased by siblings John Henry, Catherine Merlock (Charles), Norman Henry Jr. (Betty), William Henry (Betty) and Dorothy Steinman.

She is survived by her sons Joseph Vincent Barresi, Jr., Gerald Barresi (Barbara Jean); her grandchildren Barbara Janine Barresi, Anthony Joseph Barresi (Joseph), Matthew Dermond, Shaun Dermond (Barbara Jean); her sister Emma Piacentino, and numerous nephews and nieces.

Services will be private.
