Obituary for James Farley III

James Farley III, of Mays Landing, NJ, passed away in Atlantic City on Saturday, February 4, 2023.

James was born on June 29, 1962 to Hilda and the late James Farley Jr. in Atlantic City, NJ. He was a devoted son, brother, father, and grandfather. He was the second eldest among his four siblings.

James grew up in Pomona, NJ and graduated from Holy Spirit High School. He excelled both academically and athletically on the basketball team, earning a variety of honors along the way. He attended Mansfield University of Pennsylvania, Atlantic Cape Community College, and Stockton State College after high school and continued his basketball career as he furthered his education. James also joined the Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. during his collegiate years, something he was very proud of throughout the entirety of his life. He maintained lifelong relationships with his fraternity brothers. James also served the United States Marine Corps based in Camp Lejeune. He was a career food and beverage industry worker, last employed at the Hard Rock Casino.

James was the life of the party and very charismatic, he never missed an opportunity to socialize and crack a joke to put a smile on someone’s face. In his later years, he was very devoted to family. He frequently organized the get-togethers and always made sure to have an excellent meal prepared. He was a loving man who was also well-loved in return and will be sorely missed by all who crossed his path. James loved being a grandfather and father; he was very proud of that. Most of all, James was a survivor, if there was a way to be found to get through a situation, he was the man to find it.

James was preceded in death by his father, James Farley Jr. and his nephew, Keith Cundiff.

James is survived by his son, Michael; a grand-daughter, Mikenzie; his mother, Hilda; brothers and sister John, Richard, and Rochelle; his niece, Keisha; and great-nephew and great-nieces Keyani, Kayla, and Kayden.

James will be honored with a celebration of his life on February 15, 2023 at the Boakes Funeral Home, 6050 Main Street, Mays Landing, NJ. Visiting hours are from 1-2 pm followed by reflections and a procession to Lincoln Memorial Park.
