Obituary for Jeanne C. deVecchis

Jeanne C. deVecchis, 76, of Mays Landing, NJ passed away November 24th at Cambridge Hills Assisted Living Facility in Pittsboro, NC surrounded by her loving family after a long battle with Frontotemporal Dementia. Jeanne was born in Portchester, NY on December 12, 1945, to Joseph and Frances Cavino (Anni). She relocated to Mays Landing after marrying the love of her life, Carl deVecchis, who she met on the Atlantic City beach during a summer vacation. Jeanne worked for most of her adult life for Hamilton Township as a much-loved school “cafeteria lady” for the school district, as a secretary for the tax office and finally as the zoning secretary for the Planning and Zoning Department. Jeanne will be remembered fondly by all who crossed her path as a kind and caring person who always had a smile that would brighten your day. She enjoyed spending time with her daughters, grandchildren and friends and especially loved going out to dinner and all kinds of shopping. Her family often teased her saying she was “The Queen of QVC.” Jeanne was an excellent cook and baker, and often received requests for her recipes including her Italian cookies, potato salad and 4th of July American Flag cake. She was definitely the doting grandmother and especially loved to attend all of her grandchildren’s activities and sporting events over the years. To her grandchildren, she was affectionately known as “Nanny.” She was a loving sister who often stayed up until the wee hours of the night laughing and talking to her siblings. After her husband’s passing, she spent almost everyday helping to care for his twin brother, John through his courageous battle with cancer. She truly was an angel to all who knew her.
Jeanne is predeceased by her husband Carl deVecchis, her parents, Frances and Joseph Cavino, her two brothers, Rocco and Anthony Cavino, brother-in-law, John deVecchis, brother-in-law, Arthur deVecchis, Jr., sister-in-law, Joan deVecchis and sister-in-law, Barbara Wallace. She will be forever missed by her two daughters, Christine (Thomas) Kotansky of Mays Landing. NJ and Sharon (Brian) Konowitz of Apex, NC; sisters Joan (James) Calandruccio of Waretown, NJ and Marie Scarfone of Port St. Lucie, Florida, sister-in-law, Amy Cavino of Baldwinsville, NY, brother-in-law, Robert Wallace of Atco, NJ; eight grandchildren; Donna (Robert) Truoccolo, James Smith, Daniel (Logan) Smith, Thomas (Hailey) Kotansky, Jr, Justin Mitchell, Jonathan Mitchell, Jenna Konowitz, Jayce Konowitz and all of her cousins, nieces, nephews and dear friends.
In honor of our mother, we ask that you all take a moment each and every day, and “be the reason that someone smiles.” Imagine what a beautiful day it could be if everyone shared a smile.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, December 1st from 6:00-8:00PM, at the Boakes Funeral Home, 6050 Main Street, Mays Landing. A viewing will be held on Friday, December 2nd from 10:00-11:00AM, at St. Vincent de Paul Church, 5021 Harding Highway, Mays Landing, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00AM.
