Obituary for Jerry P. Davis

Jerry P. Davis, of Mays Landing, NJ, went home with the Lord November 4, 2020. Jerry’s devotion to his family and his firm belief in God supported him during his last days and provided profound peace. He was 78 years young.

Jerry was born in Lexington, KY, and raised in Westville, NJ. He was a member of Teamsters Local 312 and was a truck driver for more than forty years. After retiring, he moved from Elkton, MD to Cape May County, where he became a bus driver for Middle Township School District. After his second retirement, Jerry enjoyed exploring local wineries and spent many days lounging on Jersey Shore beaches. During his last years, he participated in the neighborhood wine club and often held court poolside at the Oaks of Weymouth.

Jerry was a man of conviction, discipline and humility, with which he led by example for all who knew him. In earlier days, he took great pleasure singing with his siblings and their spouses in places of worship where his father was a pastor. Using his “God-given” musical talent, Jerry was a proud member of the Cape Harmonaires, Atlantic City Boardwalk Chorus, and his barbershop quartet, Forever Young. A spirited competitor, he loved to play cards, board games, and countless hours of Home Run Derby. He was a lifelong Philly sports fan.

Jerry is survived by his devoted wife, Barbara Milliken Davis; daughter Tracey Bauernschmidt (Alan); sons Jerry Davis and Joseph Davis; step-children, Melissa Dodge-Milliken (Marianna), Edward Milliken, and Patrick Milliken (Stephanie); grandchildren Christopher Jones, Aidan Derrico (Anthony), Lauren Bauernschmidt, Andrew Davis, Adam Davis, and Maya Davis, Patrick Milliken and Michael Milliken; brother, Alan Davis; sisters Ruth Ann McManamy and Sandra DeFrancisco-Zielinski (Clem); and many nieces and nephews. Jerry is preceded in death by his beloved wife MaryAnn and his parents, Ralph and Elizabeth Davis. Lastly, he leaves behind many treasured friends in Cecil County, MD, who were never far from his heart.

A Celebration of Life will be held for Jerry next summer, his favorite time of the year. Donations may be made in Jerry’s name to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, https://www.stjude.org/donate/pm.html?frequency_selected=0&sc_icid=top-donate-once
