Obituary for Joanne Passin (Kelly)

died January 2, 2021 at her home, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born August 21, 1955 at Shore Memorial Hospital in Somers Point, Joanne Happily resided in Bargaintown, NJ her entire life.

Preceded by her mother Betty Rhodes, her father John Kelly, and her brothers Jackie Kelly and Joseph Kelly, Joanne is survived by her sons Jarrod Campagna of Egg Harbor Township and Joseph Passin of San Diego, and her daughter Miranda Passin of Egg Harbor Township. Joanne is also survived by her grandchildren Alan Finkle of Galloway, Jacob and Jayden Campagna of Galloway and Egg Harbor Township, and her dear friend Anna Mucciolo of Egg Harbor Township.

Smart, Genuine and appropriately voted “Miss Congeniality” by her peers, Joanne graduated from Oakcrest in 1973.

In addition to her incredible kindness and easygoing personality, Joanne will be remembered by her family and friends for her lifelong healthy spirit for fun. She enjoyed gambling and live music so much that she pursued a career in the casino industry opening Resorts Casino in Atlantic City in 1978, followed by a short stint as a dealer at the Showboat, and the Taj Mahal where she worked for the bulk of her career as a table games supervisor for 20 years.

Her love of classic rock and live music drew her to many live concerts including Fleetwood Mac, The Rolling Stones, and Madonna. Most recently, her friend surprised her with tickets and took her to witness the psychedelic guitar riffs of one of her all-time favorites, Carlos Santana. It was Joanne’s last concert.

A big Yankees and Giants fan, Joanne loved watching sports – especially when her children were playing. Joanne’s warm and friendly personality, caring nature, and genuine concern for others made her a favorite among her children’s friends and teammates, and also their parents.

Her favorite spot during the summer months was on the Atlantic City Beach with her family. She loved to read – especially Stephen King novels, and enjoyed traveling to warm-weather places. She was delighted to travel to St. Thomas last year with her daughter, Miranda.

A viewing will be held on January, 9, from 12:30 – 2 PM, at Boakes Funeral home, 6050 Main St., Mays Landing, where a service will be held at 2 PM.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, www.chop.edu
