Obituary for John Carrigg

John Carrigg, 83, of Mays Landing, passed away on January 20th at Shore Medical Center in Somers Point surrounded by family. John was pre-deceased by the love of his life Bernadette O’Brien who he spent close to 40 years with. Throughout the years, they traveled all over the United States and stayed in some of the finest hotels and dined in some of the fanciest restaurants.

John proudly served in the United States Army. After his time in the Army, he bartended in several different establishments on the Jersey Shore until he decided on a career in the US Postal Service. John’s mail route was in Jersey City, New Jersey, where he was well known at the County Court House. Upon his retirement, he moved to Mays Landing.
John was an avid sports fan and loved all the New York Sports teams, especially New York Mets and the New York Football Giants to whom he was a season ticket holder in his younger years.

John was a devout Catholic and throughout his life he was very generous to the Catholic Church. John’s favorite charity was the St. Francis of Assisi Food Pantry in New York City.

John is survived by his sisters Margaret (Peggy) Carrigg, Mary Beth Carrigg and Eileen Carrigg Specchio (John). Uncle to Katharine Specchio Barrientos (John) and Great Uncle to Nolan and Emilia. Also survived by Step-Son Richard O’Brien and Daughter-in-Law Jennifer O’Brien and grandchildren Nick O’Brien (Rachel) and Kayla O’Brien (Nick). John is pre-deceased by his father Michael Carrigg and his mother Margaret (Mullaney) Carrigg.

A viewing will be held at Boakes Funeral Home, 6050 Main Street, Mays Landing, NJ on Monday, January 25th from 9:30am to 10:30am, with a Mass to follow at St. Vincent de Paul Church, 5201 Harding Hwy, Mays Landing, NJ 08330. Internment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery adjacent to the church.
