Obituary for Joseph Gerald Baumgarten

Joseph Gerald Baumgarten 59, of Cape May passed away unexpectedly on May 3, 2023 at Cooper University Hospital.

He was predeceased by his father, Gerald Baumgarten; step-father, Robert Wallace; son, Michael Baumgarten; and granddaughter, Taylor Baumgarten.

Joe is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 36 years, Debra; son, Joe Baumgarten; daughter, Krystin Irizarry (Paul); grandchildren, Matthew, Michael, Eric, Brealyn, and Bryce; his mother, Lois Wallace; sister, Beth Birch; step-sister, Fay Wallace; and step-brother, Robert Wallace. Joe also had many in-laws, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, a plethora of friends and his two cats.

Joe was the meaning of the word "work" in every sense possible. He worked as a machine technician for Jomar Corporation, which allowed him to travel overseas to Korea, Philippines and Malaysia, worked as an excellent electrician for Bally's Casino and helped open The Revel and most recently, the DRBA was where he put his talent to work.

Joe thoroughly enjoyed taking off into the sunset on his Harley, riding his electric bikes with his son Joe, fishing trips, laying on the beach with a cold beer. Anything that involved "Salt Life" Joe was there.

Joe also very much enjoyed time with his family, especially his wife; going on dinner dates, watching the Eagles, Phillies and Jeopardy, many mini vacations together, working on their farm, but most of all building dreams and memories for their family.

Joe will be incredibly missed by all who knew him. He will always be "Bad to the Bone."

A gathering will be held Thursday, May 11, 2023 at the Boakes Funeral Home, 6050 Main Street, Mays Landing, from 5-7 pm with a service beginning at 7 pm.
