Obituary for Lois J. Grossenbacher

Lois J. Grossenbacher, 76, passed away peacefully on December 30, 2020. Lois was born in Elizabeth, NJ on April 29, 1944 along with her twin sister Nancy Donoflio. Lois originally lived in East Orange, NJ and later, while still a child, she moved to Belcoville, NJ with her sisters, Nancy and Betsy (Iversen) Knight and mother Ruth Iversen. Lois moved to Mays Landing with her first husband, Noel Cohen, in 1968 where they raised their children Laurie (Cohen) Glascock and David Cohen. Lois was well known in the community as a local waitress and worked at Johnnies Restaurant, Ye Olde Mill Street Pub and other local restaurants. In 1980, Lois divorced her first husband and still lived in Mays Landing, and in 1982 she married Thomas Grossenbacher. Lois and Tom purchased and operated a restaurant, The Chalet, in Hamlin, PA. After several years Lois and Tom sold the restaurant and purchase and operated the North and South Tavern in Sterling, PA. Several years later, Lois and Tom sold the Tavern and moved to Tickfaw, LA to live closer to family members. While in Louisiana, Lois started showing symptoms of dementia and later moved back to New Jersey. In 2008 her symptoms progressed and she was eventually admitted to Preferred Care at Absecon. Lois was a resident for approximately 12 years as her symptoms of dementia slowly progressed. On December 30, 2020, Lois was resting in bed after eating breakfast and God decided to take her and she passed away peacefully.

Lois is predeceased by; her mother Ruth Iversen, father Harry Iversen, husband Thomas Grossenbacher, twin sister Nancy Donoflio, step-sons Thomas Grossenbacher Jr. & Robert Grossenbacher. She is survived by; her sister Betsy Knight, daughter Laurie (Jerry) Glascock, son David (Stephanie) Cohen, step-daughter Trudy (John) Hoagland, grandchildren Devinne Cohen, Emily Glascock, David Cohen Jr., step-grandchildren Jeremy Glascock, Crystal (Glascock) Juneau, great granddaughter Mylee and many nephews and nieces.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 6, 2021, at Boakes Funeral Home, 6050 Main Street, Mays Landing, NJ 08330. Family and friends are welcome to gather from 10-11 AM, a service will be held at 11 AM.
