Obituary for Marie A. Champion

Marie Champion (nee Dowling), 80, of Hammonton, better known to all as Miss Marie passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side on December 23, 2022.

Born in Manayunk, PA to John and Marie Dowling and was the oldest of nine. After moving to Mays Landing in 1954, she attended St. Nick's Grammar School and graduated from Holy Spirit High.

She met and married Daniel Champion and had three daughters. They subsequently divorced but reunited after 35 years.
Marie was a restauranteur before going to work for Ryder Bus Company where she retired from. She enjoyed vacations with her family, football parties, camping and trips to the Poconos. Most of all, her family was her life.

Marie is predeceased by her parents John and Marie Dowling, the love of her life Dan, her daughter Michele Nehr, her two brothers, John and Jimmy Dowling and her sisters Catherine Wickward and Denise Fleck.

She is survived by her daughters Marie Potenski and Terry Champion-May (Richie), her granddaughter Theresa, 5 grandsons Joey, Christopher, Anthony, Ryan, and DJ, and her 9 great-grandchildren; Dominic, Jaycee, Meah, Jordan, Brianna, Rowan, Sophia, Kingston and Tommy. She also leaves to cherish her memory her sisters Anna Mae Butch (Jim) and Patty Theriault, Brother Tom Dowling (Barb) and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Relatives and friends are invited to join and celebrate her life on December 28th from 930-1130am, at Boakes Funeral Home, 6050 Main St., Mays Landing, NJ, where reflections will be shared at 1130.
