Obituary for Preston H. Hines
Preston Henry Hines was born on November 19, 1932 in Dadeville, Alabama to the late Isabell Hines Parker and Rufus Rowe. He went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on November 30, 2020.
Preston graduated from the Tallapossa County Training School in 1952. He joined the US Army in 1953 serving as a radio operator in the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He moved to Willingboro, New Jersey in 1968 after being stationed at Fort Dix and after serving 22 years in the Army he retired in 1975 as a Sergeant First Class. During his service he received the Army Commendation Medal with Second Oak Leaf Cluster for meritorious service and the Army Commendation Medal First Oak Leaf Cluster for meritorious service in Korea from May 1973 to May 1974. Preston then went to work at the US Postal Service for over 20 years.
Preston had a love for learning and went on to earn an Associate of Arts Degree from Burlington County College in 1977. Preston also had a deep interest in technology and decided to go to Lincoln Technical Institute where he graduated as a Computer Technician in 1997. In his efforts to stay engaged in the workforce, Preston worked for the US Census Bureau as a Census Assistant Manager and Recruiter in 2000 and 2010.
Preston accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior at an early age. He was a member of Christ Baptist Church of Burlington, New Jersey for over 15 years where he was the Assistant Superintendent of Sunday School and also served as President of the Bethany Institute at Burlington County, and Baptist Training Union Congress. He met his wife, BettyAnn Inloes Jackson, in 1992 and continued to live in Willingboro until they relocated to Mays Landing, New Jersey where he made a new church home at Fresh Start Church and served as trustee, usher and greeter for another 15 years.
Preston enjoyed traveling abroad and made missionary trips to Guatemala, Africa and Israel. His most memorable excursion was to Israel where he renewed his wedding vows with BettyAnn and they were both baptized in the Jordan River.
Preceding Preston in death are his infant daughter, Tamara (1995) and his brothers; Calvin, Charlie, Collie, Donald, Frank and sisters; Connie Mae and Vera. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 28 years, BettyAnn Inloes Hines; his children, Preston D. Hines (Richalen), Angela Smith, Pamela Hines and Gerald Hines; his brothers, Johnny Parker (Arenita), Ronald Parker, Grover Parker (Annette); and his sisters, Gloria Parker, Mary Alice Parker, and Ophelia Taylor; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
