Obituary for Robert W. Fields

Robert W. Fields, 80, of Buckhannon, WV, went home to be with the Lord on February 8, 2023. Bob was born on February 22, 1942 in Philadelphia, PA. He graduated from Holy Spirit High School in 1961.

He proudly served his country in the United States Navy aboard the USS Rich during the Cuban Missile Blockade. Bob was a Philadelphia Police Officer for 12 years with the K-9 and Highway Patrol Unit. He moved to New Jersey and joined the Atlantic City Fire Department as a Fireman, retiring after 21 years of service with ACFD in 1994. He was a member of the VFW and Alumni member of the USS Rich. Bob was a jack of all trades. He worked on the side in construction and owned Fields Heating and Cooling.

Bob was all about God, Country and Family. He loved to hunt and fish especially with his son Michael. Bob was a die-hard Eagles fan and wanted nothing more than to see them win the Super Bowl a second time.

He is predeceased by his wife of 48 years Claire Fields, his parents Rudolph Sr. and Jane Fields, his brother Rudolph Fields Jr. and his grandson Colin Patrick Fields.

He is survived by his loving wife Gaye Fields, his children; Colleen Harvey (Steve), Kathleen Glick (Steve), Michael Fields (Rhea), Kellyann Fields, and Melissa Ball-Adkins (Brian); his 13 grandchildren, Michelle McGuire, Hayley, Hannah, Harley, and Steven Harvey, Veronica, Abigail and Madison Glick, Mj and Sophia Desiderio, Claire Fields, Justin Fields, and Austin Ball; his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A viewing will be held Wednesday, February 15, 2023, from 9-11 am at the Boakes Funeral Home, 6050 Main Street, Mays Landing, NJ with a service at 11 am. Burial with military honors immediately following at Atlantic County Veterans Cemetery, Estell Manor, NJ. At the request of the family, we ask you honor Bob by coming in your Eagles gear! It’s a Philly thing!
