Shane Joseph Kolmetsky 32, of Egg Harbor Township passed away unexpectedly on December 11, 2020 at Atlanticare Medical Center.
Shane was born on June 2, 1988, in Somers Point NJ to Mike and Paula. He lived his entire life in EHT except for one glorious summer and one very snowy cold winter in Oakfield, Maine when his adventurous young parents decided to pick their family up and head north.
Shane was a gentle giant with a long blonde ponytail. His love for life and people were his most endearing traits. If there was a baby or a puppy in the room it ended up in Shane’s loving arms.
Shane was an unconventional child and adult. His interests and talents were many and varied. School to Shane was a social event not a learning experience. That did not make it easy trying to stuff a free spirit into a precast mold.
Shane could fix anything from jewelry to a small engine and he loved doing so.
A few of his interests and hobbies included riding his dirt bike, playing golf, shooting guns, watching James Bond and Gunsmoke, collecting knives and flashlights and playing the drums as a boy.
His Grandpop Jack instilled a love and a knowledge for wildlife and nature that continued until his last days on this earth. He and his mom and their rat terriers Riley and Lizzie could be found hiking through the woods at night enjoying fresh air, exercise, and priceless conversations together.
His dad instilled a work ethic and knowledge of caring for everything they owned from mowers to motorcycles to vehicles. He taught Shane to operate heavy equipment which Shane excelled at and loved doing.
By the time Shane was 5 years old he could name the make of every tractor trailer coming toward them while driving the roadways. He was known to roll his eyes at his mom when she called every piece of heavy equipment a bulldozer. His response was “Did it have tracks or tires?”
When his parents would buy him a new bike it would be completely taken apart and reassembled before he rode it to make sure everything was perfect. Many fathers would bring their boys BMX bikes to the house for Shane to repair instead of a bike shop. They knew it would be done correctly.
Shane loved spending time at our cabin in Pennsylvania and fishing on Drew’s Lake in New Limerick, Maine with his grandpop and brothers.
Some of his fondest memories were of vacations and Christmas parties with his Aunts, uncles, and numerous cousins.
Shane had a love and respect for his brothers Colin and Tyler that was unmatched. He understood and appreciated their similarities as well as their differences. This is something that brings great joy to his parents, the tight bond of love and respect that the Kolmetsky brother’s have for one another.
The boys have spent the last seven years building a successful business together, “Landwork’s Property Management.” Shane and Tyler worked together full time and Colin would come in parttime and help them with his special skillset that they needed and were so grateful to have available to them. What a team! Many of their customers have also become friends.
Shane is survived by his parents Mike and Paula, His brothers Colin and Tyler, sister in laws Dana and Britt, nephews Brandon and Levi Jack, Grandmom Pat Hickman and many Aunts, Uncles and cousins.
He was predeceased by his Grandpop Jack Hickman, Grandmom Hazel and Grandpop Joe Kolmetsky, his precious daughter Kendall and our much-loved triplets.
Often times Shane’s mom would say “What were you thinking about Shane?” His response would always be “Why, was I smiling again?” Of course, he was!
Family and friends may pass thru for a viewing and to pay their respects on Friday, December 18, 2020 9:30-11:00AM at Boakes Funeral Home, 6050 Main Street Mays Landing, NJ 08330. Service and burial will be private.
