Obituary for Stan Patrick Smith

Dr. Stan P. Smith, 85, of Mays Landing, NJ passed away on October 27, 2022 with his family by his side.

Stan is survived by his daughters, Karen (Kevin) Pol of Delran NJ, Michelle (Troy) Boesch of Marlton NJ, brother Richie (Ceil) Smith of Brick NJ. Stan is also survived by 7 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild and many loving nieces, nephews and extended family.

Stan was preceded in death by his wife Bonita (Coleman) Smith, sons Christopher Smith and Troy Smith, his brothers Joe Smith and Gilbert Smith, stepson Christopher Shemanski.

Stan was born December 13, 1936 in Newark, NJ to Joseph and Teresa Smith. He was a 1955 graduate of Cristobal High School in the Panama Canal Zone. He later earned his bachelor’s degree from Rutgers University and his medical degree from Temple University School of Medicine. He interned at Fitzgerald Mercy Hospital in Darby, PA., and completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at St. Michael’s Medical Center in Newark NJ. Stan served as a captain in the US Air Force in Dover, Delaware. He later opened his own medical practice in Marlton NJ and joined the staff at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Camden, NJ as well as Garden State Hospital in Marlton NJ.

Affectionately known by many as Big Daddy, Dr. Stan, Doc and Stan the National Anthem Man, Stan’s life passion was his music and singing. He grew up watching Gene Kelly and Fred Astaire and thought singing was a natural way to converse.
He often reminded his friends and family that he knew the words to 2,000 songs from beginning to end. Self- trained singer who sang “Baby Face” to every baby he delivered. He felt much joy singing to anyone and everyone that crossed his path. His favorite artists included Al Jolson, Nat King Cole, Tony Bennett and Elvis Presley. He enjoyed singing at Piano bars from New Jersey to Florida.

Stan was a Philadelphia Eagles season ticket holder for over 30 years and a life-long fan of his New York Yankees. He enjoyed traveling with his wife to his favorite places; road trips to Canada, Hilton Head Island, SC, and Massanutten, VA.
In his most recent years, he loved to be out, strolling the Atlantic City boardwalk and enjoying time at the Casinos.

Family and friends are invited to a gathering from 10-11:00 am on Saturday, November 26 at the Boakes Funeral Home, 6050 Main Street, Mays Landing, NJ 08330 with a Service and Reflections beginning at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at the Atlantic County Veterans Cemetery in Estell Manor.
