Obituary for John G. Rogers Sr.

John G.  Rogers Sr.
JOHN GEORGE ROGERS - 90 of Mays Landing also known as "JR" by many - passed away at home on Thursday, January 1st, 2015. Born in Philadelphia, PA, he spent most of his life in Mays Landing, NJ. As a young boy John was placed in Girard College an orphanage for boys. He joined the Army Air Corp and served in WWII from 1943 to 1946. He went on to become an electrician/licensed contractor. During his life he worked at the FAA now known as the Wm. J Hughes Tech Center for many years. While working at the FAA, he also worked out of Local Union #310 (Moving Pictures & Machine Operators) for Frank Theatres. He was a member of: Unity Lodge No. 96 F&AM, Scottish Rite 32nd degree, Elks Lodge Post 1000, VFW Post 220. He enjoyed music, soccer, dancing, old western movies and roller skating. John lived an active and entertaining life but was a good provider to his family and never hesitated to help friends. He had a huge heart and lots of love for dogs. His dog "HONEYBEE" will miss him.

He is predeceased by a son Thomas. He is survived by his children: Joseph (Janet) Rogers, Egg Harbor Township, John (Judi) Rogers, PA , Ralph Rogers, WA and Joyce (Edward) Gillis of Mays Landing. He also leaves behind his grandchildren Joe, Steve, Jennifer, John; five great-grandchildren; and his caregiver and dear friend, Fiifi Appiah-Mends.

A viewing will be held on Saturday, January 10 from 10 AM – 12 Noon at the Boakes Funeral Home, 6050 Main St., Mays Landing. Masonic Services will be at 12 Noon, followed by Rev. John Ash’s Service. Burial, with military honors, will follow at the Atlantic Co. Veterans Cemetery in Estell Manor.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Redeemer Hospice, 6550 Delilah Rd., Suite 501, Egg Harbor Twp., NJ 08234.
